For those not familiar with the term "green" refers to an article that is natural, biological or ecological.
As you can imagine, we produce tons of waste during and after the holiday season. Let us show some compassion for the environment during this Season of Compassion! Here are some ways we can reduce waste, protect the environment and enjoy a "greener" Christmas:
Christmas tree
• Rather than buying a tree to build, buy a large potted plant or small tree that can be used each year as your 'Evergreen' Christmas Tree.
• Buy an artificial tree that can be reused for many years.
• Get your evergreen from a tree farm as these trees are renewable.
Christmas Decor
• Make a wreath homemade from branches trimmed from your garden.
• Rather than buying outdoor décor, decorate trees and bushes in the court with a decor that is home to survive a few weeks of winter.
• decor purchase handmade recycled or manufactured from environmentally friendly materials.
• Craft fair trade is a great way to support the disadvantaged. If some these trades may not be from recycled materials, they offer a lot of income for people in need.
Christmas Tree
• Make homemade ornaments from fruit, dried corn, (painted) pinecones, dough, the painted eggshells, crushed (colored) aluminum foil, paper chains, paper snowflakes, small stuffed animals, old CDs and more!
• Decorate a doll as an angel.
• Doing a search online for Christmas decorations homemade or recycled for many ideas.
• Buy recycled or eco-friendly tree ornaments such as vegetable ivory – Decorations tree nuts tagua.
Gift Wrap
• Collect or additional copies are no longer needed papers from your company for your children to draw on the back.
• Use colorful your children's coloring books.
• Save the comic section each week to build a collection of colorful wrapping paper.
• Use leftover pieces of fabric or wallpaper.
• Use recycled paper.
• Put the gift inside another gift such as a piece of Tupperware, decorative tin, wooden box, baking pan, wrapped in a towel, etc.
• Use paper gift last season, the gift bags and gift boxes, ribbons and bows.
Greeting cards and gift tags
• Send an e-card.
• Make – a greeting card or label waste paper, fabric or wallpaper.
• For short messages use a large leaf or flat stone.
• Develop maps or tags from pieces of tissue or food box.
Wrapping
• Use packing material recorded such as peanuts and foam wrap.
• Log in to crush stray bullets. This is economical, fast and light! This is our preferred method for box filler. It is also fun for your parents, friends and clients to see a newspaper in another city.
• Buy biodegradable peanuts.
• Use the popcorn dry air. By the way it is not necessary to add salt! (Popcorn Oil will obviously make a mess and go right into your mailbox!) Include a note for the recipient to flow and the squirrels Neighborhood birds or other creatures lurk in the night!
• If you have too many peanuts then give them to a company that can use them. Call 1-800-828-2214 or visit loosefillpackaging.com information on companies wishing to take your used peanuts.
Once parents return at home and return children to school …
• Are you overwhelmed with gift boxes and regular boxes? After (breaking down and) to store as much as you can for future use, give the rest to friends or business or a tear or cut the kindling for the fireplace or charcoal for your grill.
• Ask your municipality's Pick Up schedule for trees. They will turn your trees into mulch for use in parks and public gardens. If you need mulch to check your own garden to have your tree and other any cuttings in your yard turned into mulch for your own use.
• Use any wrapping paper that are more reusable liners conservation, scrap paper or craft projects.
• Save boxes, gift bags, wrapping, filler, ribbons and bows for shipping, gift wrapping, craft projects and even storage containers.
